Create and Flo

Hello, I'm Amanda Danells-Bewley, a slow-stitching artist, based in North Yorkshire
My work grows from a deep love and fascination of the natural world. I love exploring the shapes, textures of the flora and fauna around me, from my own garden to places I discover while travelling.
I have a magpie level of love for found and sustainable materials, and am endlessly fascinated by the prospect of making things that connect to the natural world around me. I work with discarded and rescued textiles, and make many of my dyes from plants foraged locally or grown in my garden. These materials carry their own stories, marks and histories, becoming part of new pieces that connect us back to the natural world.
My journey into slow stitching began during a period of burnout and recovery. The quiet time spent in the garden, stitching, creating and reconnecting with the seasons showed me how powerful making can be. That experience continues to shape both my art and the way I share it.
Through my studio, workshops and Create and Flo, I invite people into this slower way of making — with no need for previous experience, just curiosity and a willingness to have a go. Whether stitching, dyeing, gathering or simply looking closely, I hope my work offers a gentle way to pause, connect and find beauty in the everyday.
Previous Creative Projects

Community Sewing Projects
From repurposing old school summer dresses, to making 500 yards of bunting for Ilkley town centre, to co-ordinating over 100 sewers during the pandemic making scrubs, I have brought sewing projects to the heart of the community. My passion is bringing people together, through sewing!

Festival Workshops
I've run fun, hands-on festival workshops where kids and adults create their own quirky bunting. Using a mix of vintage and pre-loved fabrics, or upcycled materials like maps and books, everyone learns the basics of bunting-making, including basic hand stitching or no-sew options and leaves with their own unique festival decorations. I've run sessions at a number of festivals including Camp Quirky and Elderflower Fields6

Community Advent Window Trail
Now in its 4th year, I organise a community advent window trail in my home village. The local village school together with the local community creates magical, festive scenes for everyone to enjoy. From the 1st to the 24th of December, a new festive window is revealed each night at 4pm, somewhere around the village, so by Christmas Eve there are 24 twinkling windows on display.
